What Makes A Hero

What Makes a Hero

What is it that makes a hero?

Super Vision:

The ability to see into ones’ soul and uplift.

Protective Instincts:

Especially for one’s family for they are God’s greatest gift.

A Pure Heart:

To house love, the strongest power of all.

Fight:

One must complete their duty no matter what the call.

Super Strength:

Not necessarily in the muscles; it comes from within.

Hope and Knowledge:

That the hero will win.

Mike's cousin Robbie finished his test here on earth about a week and a half ago.  Robbie was one that Mike always looked up to not only as a cousin but as a brother.  I have only had the opportunity of meeting Rob a few times.  However, I have learned a lot about him the past couple of weeks.  Rob had quite the battle in his life and I think he came out victorious.  Rob is definitely a hero.

We love you Rob!

Update...

I swear time is going by faster and faster.  A month passes by before there is time to enjoy it.  Fall is here!!  My favorite time of year!  I LOVE watching the leaves change.  Last Sunday Mike and I took a walk around the farm and already we could see some color coming.  So beautiful!  September was a busy month for us.  School, work, and photography seem to take up most of my time.  Mike is crazy busy with his business plus working another job.

We also spend our weekends watching our brothers play high school football.  Mike's brother David is in 9th grade and is playing for Northridge High.  He plays both sophomore and varsity.  He's such a stud!  Mike's siblings all attended Layton so it has been an interesting transition cheering for the enemy.

My brother Kyler, or more lovingly known as Bub, is a senior playing for dear ol' Davis High.  I have to say I'm going to be sad when the season is over.  I've watched nearly every one of his games from little league on up.  Growing up Bub's Football = Fall.  Here's to a great second half of the season!

In other news...Mike just got a new job that is going to be AWESOME!  The company is Fusion.  They made the signs for the Olympics that we on all the buildings.  Fusion does some really neat things and basically can make anything you ask.  Mike will be doing sales for them.  We are really excited for this opportunity and I know he is going to do a great job.  I'm so proud of you Mikey!  So to celebrate that exciting news and of course my birthday we had a weekend of pampering and a trip to Park City.

We started the weekend off with a lovely massage...

Then off to dinner at the Macaroni Grill...

Then lovely Park City!  It was GORGEOUS up there with all the fall colors.  We got up there late Thursday night then spent my birthday on Friday shopping and going to a movie.  It was such a fun trip and needed break.  Thanks Mike for such a fun birthday!!
It is quite a treat watchin' this guy buy shoes.  He analyzes everything about them...seriously EVERYTHING, tries on a couple different sizes, makes sure he can dance in them, asks me at least 10 times if I like them, and then he gets them.  After the purchase is made he talks about the shoes for the next hour and wonders if he should take them back.  It was HILARIOUS!  I'm glad you love your shoes Mikey.  They were a great purchase!

Yay Fusion!!

Gotta love the fall!

Mike wanted to watch the BYU game so bad and amazingly we could not find a single place in Park City that would be playing the game so we just jumped in the car and drove to where else...Heber City.  We were going to his mission reunion in Midway later that night so we didn't want to drive too far out of the way.  Wow, I've never been there in my whole life but we drove down one street and that was basically it.  Poor Mike was one sad boy that he wasn't going to be able to see the game.  We decided to just pull over to a restaurant and Walla!  TV with the Y game playing.  This is the happy boy!
That's the look of "Please don't take my picture. I'm busy watching the game."  I seem to get that alot...oh well that's what happens when you marry a girl with a camera!

After the mission reunion we picked up one of Mike's friends in Taylorsville to give him a ride back to Layton.  We stopped at a gas station because my sweet hubbie ALWAYS needs to have something to drink. :)  I stayed in the locked car so that I would not get killed.  I saw Mike and Mark coming out of the store so I unlocked the doors.  Suddenly a horrendous noise came from the car.  Apparently if the keys are inside of the car and not in the ignition you can't unlock the doors without the car alarm going off.  So the whole city of Taylorsville could hear this violent alarm since we couldn't figure out how to turn it off.  We drove down 3900 South with it blarring.  I'm sure people were wondering why in the world would we steal an '03 Honda Accord!  Finally it turned off on its own but once Mark opened the door to get out at his house...she blew again..at midnight..in a quiet neighborhood.  It was SO funny.  That thing screamed and yelled all the way home to the cabin.  Mike and I had tears from laughing so hard.  Finally we figured out how to fix it and all is well.

One month down...eternity to go!

I can't believe over a month has passed. We are full force into work, school, and all other aspects of life. I must say this semester has been had for me to get motivated. I thought it would be so much easier once we were married to do school stuff but I have found it to be the opposite. I started out taking 12 credits but quickly dropped a 7:30 am class. I just couldn't see myself going that early 2 days a week. So I'm down to 9 credits which should be mangageable. Mike is taking this semester off and is working really hard at a couple of jobs. He just got a rock chip repair business up and going and it is doing great. The company is called Sheer Glass. It is one of the Free Rock Chip Repair things so if any of you get a rock chip, let us know!

We are still living in the cabin and loving every minute of it...almost. Every day creates a new adventure. I'll just give you an example. A couple weeks ago Mike and I were coming home at night. We were pulling up towards the cabin. Suddenly we see this poky, round, creature just ahead of us. Mike shined the brights on it and sure enough it was a PORCUPINE! I have never seen one in my life. We started driving behind it and honking at it to see what would happen. The fat little thing just tried running away as fast as it could...which was not fast at all. Once to the cabin we ran inside. Since then we've had that task of trying to catch that darn thing. So far our only captive has been two squirrels. However, I get the slight hunch that it was the same dumb squirrel that went after free food twice and was captured. Both times though we set the little guy free. Hopefully some day soon we will find our Prickly Pete. :)

In other news I am soon to be an aunt!! I'm so excited for Kate and Karson to have their little one I can hardly stand it. It has been so fun to have little Brynlee around on the Adams' side, so to know have a baby on the Sprague side is going to be wonderful. I'm just dying to know boy or girl so I can start getting some cute little outfits.

That's our update. We're enjoying the newlywed life and getting to know each other better and better. Life is definitely good!

Lovin' in San Diego

August 4th could not have been a more perfect day. We are very happily married and had a blast on our honeymoon. We went to San Diego on August 5th. We stayed there 5 days and 4 nights. The first two nights we stayed at the Omni Hotel. The coolest thing about this hotel is that it has a skybridge that connects to Petco Park, the stadium for the Padres. We definitely took advantage of this and went to a game one night. The last two nights we stayed at the Hilton Bayfront which ended up being just across the street from the Omni. We loved it there with one window overlooking the city and stadium and the other window overlooking the bay and Coronado. We spent time at the beach, window shopping around town, swimming, the San Diego Zoo, and of course eating all the food we couldn't eat before the wedding. We also rented a scooter and rode that along the bay one day which was probably one of the most fun things we did. We both loved it and are super tempted to buy a scooter ourselves. Anyway it was a perfect get-a-way. We are back and full on in to life now. We are living at the cabin on the Adams' property for now while we are looking for a house. I honestly didn't think about how much I'd love living in the cabin, but I am going to be very sad to leave. I love waking up in the morning to the cool air and quietness. We have as much outside space as one could ask for and taking walks on the farm are irreplaceable. The dogs come down and hang out on the porch and the horses are just right down the road. True our cars are always dirty from driving down the dirt road, it can be a little spooky at night, and I wash every dish by hand. But living the simple life is much more grand and is truly bliss.

Some pics from the honeymoon...sorry I didn't rotate all of them...

Almost There....

Two days is it. I cannot believe it. Our engagement has been a whirlwind of quick planning, looking for a house, work, school, and all that jazz. We had our sights set on this adorable red brick home in Kaysville. Our offer was accepted and we thought our loan was approved but then a couple days ago that changed. So we are somewhat homeless just days before our wedding. Luckily though we have the wonderful Adams cabin to call home until we find another place. I personally believe we have karma just coming back to bite us. We thought we were getting off scot-free by not having to spend even a night in the cabin. But you just cannot be an Adams without being a newlywed in the cabin. We are very excited about it despite the possible mice and bugs. We will be there surrounded by nothing else but fresh air and open land. We couldn't ask for more. Thanks to everyone who has helped out with the wedding process. We feel so blessed to have so much support and love surrounding us. Next stop...Salt Lake Temple August 4th, 2009!!!

Temple

Last night I went through the temple for my first time. It was such an incredible experience. It especially meant so much to Mike and I to have our families there with us to join in the special occasion. We definitely feel so blessed. We feel more than ever that we both have such amazing families with great support. We're down to 16 days!! We are so excited!

And the plans continue...

Well we are just 22 days away! I can't believe how quickly time is moving. Most of the plans are settled but there are still plenty of lose ends to tie up. We got all of the bridals and engagements done the end of June. It took three days to complete because of the rain. Who'd have thought June would be so wet?! Mike was a trooper though and didn't even complain. Yes I owe him big time! Brandon is an awesome photographer and we love what he did. (brandonburkphotography.com) This coming week is going to be a busy one...finalizing invitations and getting them addressed and sent out, two showers, and hopefully finalizing the reception decor. On Saturday I will go through the temple. I'm excited to go and be there with all of our family. We have been so lucky to have so many people help us out. The time for planning has been really short and quick so all of the help and advice has been wonderful! Thanks everyone!!!
